Our volunteers are the secret to our success

READY TO BECOME AN R2L VOLUNTEER?

Our volunteers come from a wide variety of experiences and backgrounds, which exposes our students to a diverse community. Volunteers do not only help children improve their reading skills, but also increase their confidence and develop a love of learning and reading. You can become a tutor, mentor, and role model to a child in need by volunteering with Readers 2 Leaders.

We need Reading Buddies For Summer Camp 2017!

R2L Summer Camp is just around the corner and we need 30 Reading Buddies per day to help our students during this critical time of year! Students that do not read during the summer regress, on average, 2 months in their reading level. That is 2 months of hard work they have been putting in this year at school, at home, and in Readers 2 Leaders! Help us prevent students from experiencing the "Summer Slide" by signing up to be a Reading Buddy in R2L's Summer Camp! Last year the average student that attended R2L Summer Camp progressed 3 months in reading and 90% of students did not experience the Summer Slide! We hope to have comparable results, if not better, this summer, but we cannot do it without the support of our wonderful Reading Buddies that make it possible for students to receive the individualized one-on-one reading intervention they need to succeed!

When:

June 12th - July 20th
Mondays - Thursdays

Two volunteer sessions available:

Morning Session: 9:45 - 11:35 am

Commitment Requirements

Reading Buddies are asked to make a commitment to volunteer a minimum of 5 days during Summer Camp.

Reading Buddies preferably volunteer on a weekly basis during the 6 week summer camp, but we know summer is a busy time for our volunteers so we are able to work with you if you cannot make a weekly commitment to the same day and time.

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old.

Required Training

All volunteers, new and returning, are asked to attend a training during the week of June 5th. We have some new fun reading activities this summer that we want to train all volunteers on prior to camp starting.

R2L is planning to offer three trainings. You only need to attend one.

Tuesday, June 6th 10am-12pm
Wednesday, June 7th 10am-12pm
Thursday, June 8th 2-4pm

The thing I enjoy the most about volunteering with Readers 2 Leaders is seeing a student get truly excited about reading. It makes me happy to be a part of something that creates that sort of excitement for learning in a child.

I enjoy being able to help the kids in their process of learning how to read and write. I am overjoyed at the fact that these wonderful kids are making a lot of progress on their literacy skills and their confidence level. I am blessed to be able to have an opportunity to tutor these wonderful kids and see them grow every time I come.
